Camilla Brendon

Over the past six years I have been exploring different countries and cultures through work and travel. I have developed and adapted my communication, creative and innovative skills to a wide range of roles within art and design sector businesses. During this time my practice as an independant artist has become strong and unique thanks to working in diverse positions and living in various environments.

Gallery Positions
-April 2012-January 2013, Invigilator for The Gallery St. Peters Church, London, shows: Nour and Music
-November 2011- January 2012, Invigilator for Asia House, London, show: The Talented Mr. Chinnery
Invigilating roles include:

  • Promoting of the gallery and gallery information
  • Security and closing of the gallery spaces
  • Explaining art and answering general questions that visitors have including sales
  • Assisted with de-installing antique paintings at Asia House

-October- December 2010, Gallery/Studio Administrator trainee for Hive T1+T2 Gallery, London
Roles included:

  • Framing and installing the Richard Dyer exhibition, invigilating the show and de-installing the work
  • Press release and mailing list construction and maintenance
  • Recording meetings
  • Billing and logging studio fees and artists spaces
  • Leasing with curriers and clients

Exhibition Curation and Events Promotion
-September 2013, Open Day, Sustainable Bolivia, an NGO that works in Cochabamba to aid sustainability and development within the community, Cochabamba, Bolivia.

  • Co-ordinated partner organisations and the community to attend and participate in the sharing of contacts and information
  • Organised the fund raising raffle with prizes donated by local businesses

-August 2010-March 2012, Events Promoter/coordinator for Todays Specials

  • Physically and digitally promoted pop-up design events, during the London design week, September 2010 and The Christmas Bazaar 2011, in Notting Hill, London
  • During events worked at front of house helping customers, taking sales and orders

I value the importance of making contemporary art accessible to a wide audience. With this in mind when opening shows I incorporate live music and DJ’s, food and drinks, creating an event that is appealing to a wide audience and which showcases the artwork.

Workshops and Talks
When visiting studios/galleries and artists during 34South|61North I am often asked to explain my work and background. in response to this I have become used to giving presentations on my practice in public and answering questions in English and Spanish languages. I have also been invited to give workshops on installation in public spaces and working with waste materials. These workshops have enabled me to confidently communicate and instruct children and adults in English and in Spanish.

-November 2009-March 2010, Stylist for Abercrombie and Fitch, Ginza, Tokyo
As one of the original stylist team employees in Abercrombie’s first store in Asia my role included:

  • Team leader of upto 20 stylists, point of communication between managers and staff
  • Changed and maintained displays and lighting in the 11 story flagship store
  • Dressed and styled models, responsible for maintaining styles
  • Provided style advice to customers
