34South|61North, Bolivia has had a focus on plastic waste and installation. Here I got back to some old style paper collage with striking natural forms and bold colours. New mural for the best bar in town.

Bloom-Take Spaces and Make Them New-mARTadero, Cochabamba.

After arriving in Cochabamba I visited the mARTadero, a contemporary arts, theatre and music venue in Cochabamba, which occupies an old slaughter house. Situated in a neighbourhood south of the main plaza and full of mechanics shops, the mARTadero strives to bring this neglected community into the arts.

As I approached the centre I was struck by a solemn Kiosk structure that sits in the plaza in front of the mARTadero. The neglected emptiness of the space was grasping. This was the site for Take Spaces and Make Them New.  After several meetings I was invited to participate in Enred Arte con Nada, 2013.

Bloom-Take Spaces and Make Then New is the first work in the series to use plastic instead of paper. I worked with plastic because the streets of Cochabamba are full of plastic waste and there is little effort to preserve materials. I made the bloom shapes with the bags allowing them to float and fill the empty spaces of the kiosk.

The work filled and transformed the Kiosk. Gaia-Pacha, a local organisation which is running a campaign to promote using cotton shopping bags and re-using waste, plastic provided supplementary information on plastic and general waste disposal in Cochabamba.

After five days we de-installed Bloom.
